A staple of Staunton for
more than 30 years is now gone.
Skatetown USA closed its doors this past weekend.
A sign on the door says
the owners have retired and sold the property.
Dixie Daniel's father managed Skatetown for 20 years until his
retirement. She spent her childhood at
the skating rink and is sad to see it go.
"It was family," Daniel
said. "It was home away from home for so
many people. The kids that grew up there,
it was a place to go and socialize. It
was safe, kept us out of trouble. It's a
real loss for the community.
A Facebook page has been created
to protest Skatetown's closing. Some are
holding out hope.
