Charlottesville City Council is getting a jump start on next year's budget.
City councilors sat down with members of the city's Agency Budget Review Team to examine how the city can better identify budget priorities going forward.
The budget for the current fiscal year took effect only a few weeks ago.
Charlottesville budget director Leslie Beauregard said, "This is next July's fiscal year, and yes we do start the process very early. We're 11 months away from that, but we're starting tonight with planning for that."
Councilors got a briefing on the pot of money potentially available for nonprofit agencies and other non-governmental groups. They're trying to make sure tax dollars are placed with agencies that do the most good in the community.
