Michelle Obama Tickets Handed Out

Posted: Updated:

Michelle Obama is scheduled to speak at Main Street Arena Friday afternoon.  Wednesday the line to get a free ticket to see the first lady extended several blocks around Obama campaign office on the downtown mall.

Tickets to see the first lady are still available but hundreds did not want to chance it Wednesday morning as they braved the heat to get a ticket. A team of campaign volunteers signed people up for the Obama event on laptops. Volunteers also gave out water and fans to those waiting in line.

The first people began camping out at 7:00 Wednesday morning. Myra Anderson, who was first in line said, "I mean if I go to Black Friday and camp out all night, it's nothing for me to be here at 7:00 o'clock for the first lady."

The first lady will speak at a Women's Vote event on Friday afternoon at the Main Street Arena.  Doors open at 11 a.m.

The official capacity of Main Street Arena is 1,500 but the crowd limit has been increased by the city to 2,500.

The first lady is no stranger to this area. She campaigned for her husband at the University of Virginia in 2008 and she has visited Monticello twice - once in 2009 and then in 2010.
