Democrats in central Virginia are trying to capitalize on President Barack Obama's Friday and Saturday tour through the commonwealth.
Fifth District congressional candidate John Douglass was in Albemarle County to help open a new campaign office on Route 29 at Woodbrook Drive. Douglass says Democrats have seen a strong turnout at their events, but admitted Republicans are raising more money. He blames that on the GOP being too cozy with big business.
Douglass explained, "For example, my opponent, I have raised him dollar for dollar for individuals, but I've got maybe four times as many people giving to my campaign as he does. But he has a lot more money because he is bought and paid for by Wall Street."
State Delegate David Toscano also came out to support Douglass. Volunteers started making calls at the phone bank shortly after the opening party was over.
