Nagurski & Outland Trophy Watch Lists Announced

Posted: Updated:

Virginia and Virginia Tech combined to place six players on the Bronco Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy preseason watch lists Thursday.

The Nagurski Trophy is given each year to the top defensive player in college football, while the Outland Trophy goes to the best interior lineman.

UVA junior tackle Morgan Moses has been named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list.

Moses has started 20 straight games for the Cavaliers, after gaining a spot on the offensive line as a true freshman.

The 6-foot-6, 335-pounder from Richmond was part of a Virginia O-Line which allowed just 16-sacks all year, which was the second-best total in the conference.

No Virginia player has been nominated for the Outland Trophy since Eugene Monroe in 2008, but this year, they have two nominees, as senior Oday Aboushi joins Moses on the watch list.

There are 71-players on the Outland Trophy preseason list this year.

Aboushi has started 25-games in a row for the Cavaliers, and was an All ACC second-team selection last year.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Aboushi was named the ACC offensive lineman of the week twice last season, and is one of UVA's captains this year.

Virginia Tech junior center Andrew Miller is also on the Outland Watch list.

Cavaliers senior linebacker Steve Greer is one of 84-players on the Nagurski Trophy list.

UVA has had a player on the Nagurski list every year since 2004, but no one from the school has ever won the award.

Greer was named second-team All ACC last season.

The 'Hoos leading tackler was seventh in the league with 103 tackles last year, and has been tops on the Cavaliers in that category in two of his three seasons.

Greer is also on the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list.

Virginia Tech has two players up for the Nagurski Trophy this year.

The first is senior linebacker Bruce Taylor.

Taylor was named honorable-mention All ACC last season, despite missing the last six games due to a foot injury.

He was leading the team in tackles, tackles for a loss, and quarterback hurries before his injury.

Taylor led the Hokies in both tackles and tackles for a loss in 2010.

Corey Moore was the only Virginia Tech player to win the Nagurski Trophy, capturing the honor in 1993.

Taylor will have some competition from his own team this year, as junior corner back Kyle Fuller has also been named to the watch list.

Fuller has played as a nickelback the past two seasons, starting seven games as a true freshman in 2010.

He started all fourteen games for the Hokies last year, and earned a second team All ACC selection at cornerback.

Fuller had a team-high 14 1/2 tackles for a loss last season, and was fourth on the team with 65 total tackles.

The Hokies open the season September 3rd at home against Georgia Tech.
