Former Cavalier tennis star Sanam Singh is playing in the Mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Tennis Championships this week at the Salisbury Country Club in Richmond.
The 2011 UVA grad is the top overall seed, while 2012 graduate Steven Rooda and rising senior Maria Fuccillo are also playing.
Singh advanced to the quarterfinals Wednesday after his opponent withdrew due to injury in the first set.
Rooda will join his former teammate in the next round after a straight set win, while Fuccillo is in the quarter's after a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Singh and Rooda are teamed up in the doubles draw, which is an event Singh won in both 2009 and 2010.
"It's one of the best organized tournaments, and it's a lot of fun for the players to come here and play," says Singh. "There's pretty big crowds here towards the evening, and it's a lot of fun for me to come back here and play."
