Augusta Supervisors Move Forward with Greenville Sewer Project

Posted: Updated:

Augusta County supervisors are moving forward with the Greenville sewer project, despite a $400,000 increase in the price tag.

After much debate at Wednesday night's meeting, supervisors voted 4-to-3 to go ahead with the project.  The failing septic systems of Greenville have been an issue for years.

The project will connect Greenville to the water treatment plant a mile down the road.  The county has already invested $300,000 in the project, and some felt they couldn't turn back now.

Riverheads District Supervisor Michael Shull said, "Are we being good stewards to the taxpayers and good stewards to the tax dollars here?  I think that we're so far in this project that we need to continue on."

The project is expected to be completed by 2013.
