Charlottesville City Manager Maurice Jones has named Miriam Dickler the new director of communications for the city.
Ms. Dickler is currently the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the City of Harrisonburg, Virginia. In this capacity she serves as the city's spokesperson; directs internal and external communication efforts; oversees community education and outreach; and coordinates public input. She has been Harrisonburg's PIO since January of 2005.
"Miriam has done an outstanding job building a strong communications office in Harrisonburg," said Mr. Jones. "Miriam is an experienced communications professional who is committed to providing high quality customer service to the public. I'm confident she will thrive in this role."
"It is an honor to have this opportunity with the city of Charlottesville," said Ms. Dickler. "I look forward to working with city staff and the community. There is a valuable tradition of public engagement in Charlottesville and I am excited to be a part of it."
Prior to her tenure with the city of Harrisonburg, Ms. Dickler was a reporter and anchor for WSVA radio in Harrisonburg.
She will begin work with the city of Charlottesville on August 7, 2012.
