Phil Mahone fired a final round 67 to win the 25th annual Charlottesville City Men's Golf Championship over Bowen Sargent Sunday at Meadowcreek Golf Course.
The Farmington member finished at 11-under par for the three-day tournament, three strokes ahead of the UVA head men's golf coach Sargent (-8).
Mahone also won the City Championship in 2010 and did not three-putt all weekend.
"It's really special to win two within a three-year period after a lot of close calls," said Mahone. "I think I was runner-up four times before I won two years ago. It feels really special. That's probably the best field that I've won a tournament under."
Two-time city champ David Passerell tied with Covenant School graduate Ben Weaver for third place at 5-under par.
Passerell was the only player other than Mahone to break par in all three rounds.
Brad Ferguson, Chad Jones, and Jeff Toms all finished tied at 4-under par for fifth place.
Ferguson, a Spring Creek member, led by one stroke heading into the final round but shot a 75 Sunday after a 66 and a 65 the previous two days.
Players had wait through a long rain and lightning delay on the back nine as a violent storm rolled through Charlottesville.
