Money raised during this year's "4 the Wounded 5K" will go a long way in helping veterans and their families.
The University of Virginia Foundation presented a $90,000 check to the Wounded Warrior Project during a special post-race celebration Friday. The 2012 race raised about $15,000 more than last year.
Jim Leckinge of the Wounded Warrior Project said, "What the money will do is it will go to support the programs we offer our warriors. A big part of what people don't understand is that we have several programs for caregivers and family members. What people don't realize is they are as affected as the warrior him or herself."
More than 1,100 people participated in the June race.
