The number of people treated for heat-related illnesses is jumping right now. Martha Jefferson Hospital says they have seen 28 people with heat-related illness since Friday, June 29.
Emergency room doctors say the illnesses range from heat exhaustion to heat stroke.
Dr. Anil Shukla of Martha Jefferson Hospital said, "We can do anything here from orally rehydrating people if we feel it is minor, to starting an IV line and getting them saline and fluids intravenously - checking labs and all the way to the point of if you are having a heat-related illness to actually cooling you down."
Doctors say the heat tends to hurt the young and older more than anyone else.
