The skies are lighting up across America Wednesday night as we celebrate Independence Day.
Hundreds parked their cars on Pantops Mountain and looked west to watch the fireworks from McIntire Park in Charlottesville. Those started around 9:30 Wednesday night.
One man said he was surprised to see so many people out. "We really were. We just walked up and were amazed at how full the parking lot was," said Jim Osterholt of Albemarle County.
Those fireworks continued for about a half hour. This is America's 236th birthday.
