Despite Power Outage Scottsville and Earlysville Host July 4th Parades

Communities across central Virginia are taking a brief break from storm recovery to celebrate America's birthday. People braved the heat to watch the patriotic parades roll through downtown Scottsville and Earlysville.

Bands, fire trucks, and - of course - hand-shaking politicians made their way through the crowds. The candidates offered words of encouragement to the people who still do not have power and they are promising to seek resources from Washington to help with the recovery.

5th District Representative Robert Hurt, (R) said, "With the serious property damage, especially in these counties between Charlottesville and Lynchburg, it's something we want to work real hard on."

Candidate for Congress John Douglass (D) stated, "We have FEMA to help us with things like that and they definitely need to work with state and local communities to make sure essential services are maintained."

Hurt says he has been in touch with the governor's office daily since the storm to determine how the federal government can help.
