Wednesday is the 236th anniversary of our country's independence, and there are plenty of events going on in the area to kick off the July 4th festivities.
Scottsville is starting the celebration off with a parade at 10 A.M. A fireworks display will begin tonight at 9:15 P.M.
The annual naturalization ceremony for new citizens is at Monticello starting at 9 A.M. It is free and open to the public. Gymnast Nadia Comaneci will deliver the keynote speech.
Charlottesville's fireworks show begins one minute after dark at McIntire Park.
Earlysville will celebrate the Fourth of July with a parade beginning at 1 P.M.
Crozet's fireworks show has been canceled this year due to storm damage.
In Madison County, the Graves Mountain Lodge will have food and family fun to celebrate our nation's birth. Dry Rund Band will perform from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. There will be pony rides and face painting. Reservations are required if you plan on dining at the lodge. There will also be food at Sycamore Pavilion, which doesn't require a reservation. Fireworks start at 9 P.M. or when it gets dark enough.
