A Staunton man accused of robbing a convenience store has been convicted of a less serious charge.
Staunton police say 33-year-old Farrington Fitch walked into the 7-Eleven store on North Coalter Street last December and demanded money from the clerk. Surveillance video led to a quick arrest.
Fitch stood trial Tuesday on a robbery charge, which carries a possible life sentence, but a judge instead found him guilty of larceny.
Fitch will be sentenced at a later date.
