Waynesboro City Councilman Bruce Allen begins his second term with a move to the center chair. Monday morning, his fellow council members voted unanimously to appoint Allen as mayor for the next two years.
During that time, he hopes to continue the city's progress on stormwater and economic development projects. Allen admits he did not seek the office of mayor, which he says is more than just a ceremonial role.
"You have to be a leader, try to lead and keep the team together and try to move forward. There's a few more additional meetings that you meet with the other jurisdictions, so it's got more work to it than just going to a ribbon-cutting once in a while," he said.
Allen predicts Waynesboro council will "move forward well together" despite conflicts among some members just before their re-election in May.
