The Staunton Post 13 American Legion baseball team beat Albemarle Post 74 7-2 Saturday night at Stuarts Draft High School.
The Staunton win snaps Albemarle's eight-game winning streak. After starting the summer with back to back losses, Post 74 won eight straight (five at home and three on the road) before falling Saturday night.
Albemarle got on the board first in the first inning on a bases loaded walk.
Post 13 answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. After tying the game on a wild pitch, Riverheads High School graduate Kyle Armstrong doubled to right with a runner at third and two outs. Buffalo Gap rising junior Tyler Wilcher scored to make it 2-1 Staunton.
Stuarts Draft High School grad Austin Sanchez hit a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning to score fellow 2012 SDHS grad Drew Hayman to give Post 13 a 3-0 lead. With runners at second and third later in the inning, Wilson Memorial rising senior Branden Poole hit a two-RBI single to center that scored Sanchez and Wilcher to give Staunton a 5-1 lead.
2012 Draft grad Steven Patterson added some more insurance with a two-out solo home run to left in the fifth inning.
Poole also got the win on the mound for Post 13.
Saint Anne's-Belfield grad Brett Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.
