Posted: Updated:

Staunton beat visiting Covington 10-0 in five innings Friday night. Weather forced the cancellation of the rest of the game at John Moxie Memorial Stadium.

Former Orange County High School star Derek Justice threw& all five innings, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts for the Braves. Justice, who transferred from UVA to Division II Mount Olive in Illinois, improves to 1-2 on the mound this summer.

Staunton put up four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to jump out to a commanding lead.

The Braves also put up one run in the third and two more in the fourth inning.

Staunton had 14 hits in the game.

The Braves also completed a 6-1 win over Covington earlier Friday night. A power outage at Moxie Stadium June 9 forced the game to be postponed and picked up in the third inning.

Ben Verlander hit a three-run home run for Staunton in the second inning June 9. Julien Soucy gave up six hits in seven innings to earn the win on the mound.

Rain forced the postponement of Waynesboro's game at New Market and Harrisonburg's game against visiting Rockbridge before the games became official. Both games will be replayed at a later date.

The Generals put up three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-7 and keep the game from going official.

The Turks and Rapids were tied 4-4 at the top of the fourth inning.
