Former UVA basketball star Mike Scott was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the NBA Draft Thursday night.
Scott was the 43rd player selected overall, and the 13th in the second round.
Minutes after the selection was announced, the 6-foot-8 forward Tweeted, "Proud to be a Hawk... Blessed for this opportunity!!!" on his Twitter feed.
Scott is the first Virginia player picked in the NBA Draft since Sean Singletary in 2008.
Mike Scott joins a Hawks team which finished second in the Eastern Conference Southeast Division last year, and advanced to the first round of the NBA playoffs.
He averaged 18 points and over 8 rebounds per game, while shooting 80 percent from the free throw line and 56 percent from the field last season.
Scott is third all-time in UVA history in rebounding and double-doubles, and was named first team All ACC last season.
