A fire shuts down a day care facility in Albemarle County Thursday night. The Bright Beginnings Preschool at Forest Lakes will be closed Friday as a result.
The call came in around 6:00 Thursday evening. A day care employee said she smelled smoke and when firefighters arrived, they found flames in the attic.
Crews put out the fire within minutes and no one was hurt.
Albemarle County Fire Battalion Chief Chip Walker said, "Good time of the day, very low occupancy, and at no time were any of the children at risk, so good there."
Walker says two employees, one parent, and a child were in the building at the time. They were safely evacuated.
The fire marshal office says the cause of the fire was electrical. There is an estimated property loss of $20,000.
There's no word on when the day care at Forest Lakes will reopen, but staff and students will be relocated to two other Bright Beginnings facilities in Albemarle - Crozet and Mill Creek - until repairs are complete.
