Former UVA track star Marcus Robinson will be looking to make the U.S. Olympic team in the triple jump Thursday night, as the Richmond-native will be competing at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
The former Cavalier was the ACC indoor and outdoor champion in the triple jump this past season, and broke the school record in the process.
Robinson has a qualifying mark of 16.63 meters, and has had his spot secured in the trials for a long time.
"It was indoor season, actually, when I set this qualifying mark," says Robinson. "It surprised me that it was one of the top qualifiers, but it's good to get it out of the way, and have that pressure off you. It's going to be really exciting, just to be out there with those guys."
Marcus Robinson will be in the first flight of the triple jump competition Thursday, which begins at 7:30 PM Eastern in Oregon.
"I got a lot of people at home supporting me," says Robinson. "Friends and family that come through and have gone through UVA supporting me, and I'm doing it all for them. It's a great feeling. It's indescribable."
