Augusta County Supervisors Agree to Close Part of Rt. 636

Posted: Updated:

After hearing from the public on Wednesday night, the Augusta County Board of Supervisors agreed that a portion of Route 636 in Fishersville should be closed.

County residents spoke at the board of supervisors meeting in favor of closing a gravel stretch of Route 636.

Neighbors say the road heading west out of Augusta Health is not maintained, unsafe and over traveled.

Robert Pingry, a resident of Fishersville, said, "The road is essentially the same road that was built in the mid 1800s when the traffic count was 10 or 20 horses per day. This same road that has not been improved for a hundred years is now a traffic count for 400 vehicles per day."

Supervisors passed a motion to close the road. The motion will now go before the Commonwealth Transportation Board.
