Dawn Evans: U.S. All-Star in China

Posted: Updated:

Former JMU All-American Dawn Evans will be representing her country in international basketball competition in the next two weeks. Evans is one of 12 players selected to travel to China with a United States all-star team.

The team left Tuesday and will play China, Russia, and Great Britain in the Four Nations Invitational. Those national teams are preparing for the Olympics.

This marks the first time a non-federation team is participating in a FIBA Olympic tune-up event.

Evans and the U.S. team will also face the Chinese National B squad in a three-game series before heading back to the United States July 11th.

Evans played professionally in Vienna, Austria for the Flying Foxes earlier this year and signed a training camp contract with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. She trained with Connecticut in April and May but did not make the Sun's 2012 roster.

She's the Colonial Athletic Association's all-time leading scorer, earning conference player of the year in 2011 and leading the dukes to back-to-back CAA Tournament titles in 2010 and 2011.

The U.S. all-star team roster for the Four Nations Invitational includes Montana State's Katie Bussey, Southern California's Ashley Corrall and Briana Gilbreath, Vanderbilt's Jence Rhoads, Memphis' Brittany Carter, Louisville's Becky Burke, Oregon's Amanda Johnson, Cal Poly's Kristina Santiago, Florida State's Cierra Bravard, and Arizona State's Becca Tobin and Kali Bennett.
