Just like last year about this time, recruiting is really picking up for head coach Mike London and the UVA football program as spring turns to summer.
The Cavaliers have 13 verbal commitments for the class of 2013.
Cornerback Kirk Garner, who committed Friday, joins Varina High School cornerback Tim Harris as the four-star recruits in the class according to Rivals.
Rivals ranks ten of the eleven other rising seniors in the class as three-star prospects.
Five of the verbals hail from Virginia, including wide receiver Zack Jones from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake. He's the younger brother of UVA running back and captain Perry Jones.
Virginia Beach's Corwin Cutler is one of two quarterbacks in the recruiting class so far, along with Brendan Marshall from Good Counsel High School in Maryland.
Garner and wide receiver Andre Levrone are also rising seniors at Good Counsel.
The 'Hoos received two verbals in March, four in April, three in May, and have four more in June so far.
"We're cautiously optimistic," said London. "When you have those type of things going on right now, then young men have turned around. They're looking at Virginia seriously. We're up there battling with the rest of the country, in terms of young men that are interested in making their pledges to schools. We just keep consistent in what we're doing, remain humble, and just keep the head low to the grind, and keep working, and see what happens. They know about the program, or they've been here before. You have a chance to talk about the vision of the program. The school, again, because of its reputation, it's a best of both world opportunities. You can win on the field, and you can win in the classroom. And they see that. The personalities of the guys...I've got a great staff. I keep saying that about the men that work here. It's fantastic. For all those things that come together, and when a young man sees that, and the progress of it, then he's interested in the school."
