Albemarle High School baseball star Joe Burris has verbally committed to play college baseball at Virginia Tech.
Last season as a junior at Albemarle, Burris had a 6-2 record on the mound with a 1.09 era. The left-hander had 72 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 58 innings pitched. His fast ball is timed at 87 miles per hour.
As a hitter, Burris batted .459 this past season with 4 home runs. He also had 12 doubles and 30 RBI helping the Patriots reach the regional playoffs. He was Albemarle's Player of the Year.
Burris was named first team all-district and was voted all-region.
