Albemarle County planners are holding a public hearing Tuesday night on a proposed soccer park. The Monticello United Soccer Club wants to put in four soccer fields and a parking lot on the land along the Rivanna at Route 29 and Polo Grounds Road.
The site would be called MonU Park. The county says the soccer complex would meet a need for more sports fields.
Albemarle County Senior Planner Scott Clark said, "The county parks and recreation department sees a really strong need all over the county for soccer fields. There's just so much demand for them that they feel this would be helpful for them, even though it's not a public facility. At least, the fact this club is there is able to provide some of the fields that are needed."
County staff is concerned about the increase of traffic along Polo Grounds Road during games and practices at MonU Park.
