Two members of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors are speaking out about the Virginia Republican Party's decision reversal on Friday.
In a 47-31 vote, the GOP opted to go with a closed convention instead of an open primary to choose a gubernatorial nominee in 2013.
Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, the candidate running against Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the nomination opposes the change.
He argues it disenfranchises hundreds of thousands of Republican voters. Albemarle County supervisors, Democrat Chris Dumler and Republican Ken Boyd agree.
Dumler said, "I think that's what he was hoping for. That's what he was planning for, and it seems that the state GOP kinda pulled the rug out from under him."
Boyd said, "I think you get much broader participation if it's a primary instead of a convention - but you know that's politics and you gotta go with the way the wind blows."
The convention has yet to be scheduled, but it's likely to take place between March and June of 2013.
