Hundreds of runners hit the trails in Fluvanna County Saturday for a cross-country race to honor a young life lost. The 8th annual Timo's Memorial 5K took place at Pleasant Grove remembering Timo Husted-Wright.
At 17, Wright died in a car accident on Route 53 after leaving cross country practice at Pleasant Grove. This year was the largest turnout for the race with more than 100 runners and walkers.
Timo's mother and 5K director Angell Husted said, "I knew the day he died that I was going to start a 5K memorial race in his honor because he absolutely loved cross country. In fact, the last day of his life, the last afternoon of his life he spent here at Pleasant Grove running cross country, and so his spirit remains here."
All proceeds will benefit the Palmyra Fire Company and Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire and Rescue. This year's total will top $40,000.
