Virginia State Police kicked off the Operation Border to Border safety initiative on Friday. Police in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina will patrol Route 15 to reduce traffic crashes and criminal behavior.
Last year, a total of 318 crashes happened along the highway in Virginia alone. Police say the Zion Crossroads area is one place they are most concerned about.
Virginia State Police Sergeant Anthony Puckett said, "In this area on Route 15, we're more focused on speeders to reduce accidents. As far as checkpoints, we do have a few traffic checkpoints in place, at this point we don't have any DUI checkpoints planned."
The program runs through Sunday. Click here for more information.
