Man in Custody After Police Chase Ending in Augusta

Posted: Updated:

A man is in custody after leading police on a chase through two counties Wednesday afternoon.  State troopers in Rockingham County began to pursue the speeding driver just before 1:00.

He reportedly wrecked one car in Mount Sidney, escaped on foot, and then stole a red Jeep Cherokee.  Augusta County deputies spotted it on Lee Highway in Verona.

The suspect drove into the Rolla Mills subdivision, where he left the Jeep in someone's backyard and ran away.  He was arrested just a few minutes later.
