The Charlottesville Free Clinic is benefiting from singer Bonnie Raitt's return from a five-year break from touring. Crews are setting the stage for Raitt's performance Tuesday night at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
Proceeds will support the free clinic's increasing patient count. Raitt performed a benefit show for the clinic five years ago, raising enough money to cover a third of its budget for the year.
The Charlottesville Free Clinic hopes Tuesday night's concert gives the crowd "something to talk about".
"It's as much of a friend-raiser as it is a fundraiser," said Charlottesville Free Clinic Director Erika Viccellio. "More people will find out about us. We have a sold out show tonight at the pavilion, so more than 3,200 people will be there to hear about the free clinic."
The 20-year-old clinic just finished planning for its future. A behavioral health specialist will join the staff, and the clinic is partnering with The Women's Initiative.
Tuesday night's concert, featuring Mavis Staples, starts at 7:00.
