Primary Predictions from the UVA Center for Politics

Posted: Updated:

The University of Virginia Center for Politics offered up some prediction and perspective on Tuesday's Republican primaries, specifically the race for the U.S. Senate nomination.

UVA Center for Politics analyst Geoff Skelley tells NBC29, Republican George Allen is the front-runner to take the GOP nomination. He would go up against former Democratic Governor Tim Kaine in the November elections.

However, he faces three opponents in Tuesday's primaries - Bishop E.W. Jackson, delegate Bob Marshall, and Tea Party leader Jamie Radtke.  Skelley says that could make Allen's overall poll percentages interesting, and any result that's lower than expected could hint at issues with parts of the Republican followers.

As for U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's race, Skelley predicts no problems with the match-up.

In the 6th District, Representative Bob Goodlatte is taking on Karen Kwaitkowski.  Skelley suggests he'll win, but it could be interested to see what kind of percentages come out of those results.

Charlottesville voters can cast their ballots in all nine precincts from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
