All-terrain-vehicles raced across a field in Greene County Saturday to kick off a week-long festival that raises awareness for breast cancer.
To get ready for the race, 200 racers rolled up to the starting line at the Mid-Atlantic Power Festival and sped off for test and tune-up ride.
The festival commemorates the life of Amy Payne, who lost her life to breast cancer on July 7, 2007. Her sister-in-law, Tabitha Payne, says racing is a family favorite and something she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones.
"[It is] something the boys enjoy, something that we thought that the community would also enjoy and the family has always been into it," said Payne.
This is the fourth annual Mid-Atlantic Power Festival. It will continue through the week. Next Saturday, the festivals final event will be a nationwide demolition derby and auto-cross derby race.
