Robbery Suspect Enters Alford Plea, to Serve 5 Years

Posted: Updated:

Less than a year after being acquitted in a fatal stabbing, a Staunton man is headed to prison for robbery.  DeShawn Kelly, 35, entered an Alford plea late Thursday in Augusta County Circuit Court.

Kelly was arrested for a November robbery at a convenience store in Buffalo Gap.  The Alford plea means while he does not admit guilt, he does admit the prosecution has enough evidence for a conviction.

A judge ordered Kelly to serve five years behind bars.
