VA Election Board OKs Voter Outreach Plan

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The State Board of Elections is starting a comprehensive voter education and outreach plan to inform Virginians about changes to the state's voter identification laws.

Officials say the board approved the campaign called "Are You Election Ready?" earlier this week to reach voters in all 134 localities in Virginia.

The outreach plan will include public service announcements and other methods such as its website and other social media to get important information to voters.

The board also plans to mail new voter registration cards to all of Virginia's about 4.7 million active registered voters in early fall as part of an order from Gov. Bob McDonnell.

In May, the governor signed new polling place identification requirements into law that requires voters to present valid identification at the polls.
