Fluvanna County is revamping its approach to economic development. The county's new Economic Development Director Bobby Popowicz presented his plan to supervisors Wednesday afternoon.
It targets businesses that would bring a large number of jobs without building up the county's countryside. The new plan would start with tourist-attracting agribusinesses.
"Right now we have a company that's interested in coming here that does a folk music festival," said Popowicz. "They stay for four days and bring folks into the county and then go home. But that's a little shot in the arm. So until we get some infrastructure issues resolve, those are the type of things will start with."
Supervisors are also reviewing a proposal by Aqua Virginia to build a waterline to Zion Crossroads. A new study estimates the county would miss out on $4.8 million in revenue over the next 10 years without a waterline.
