A drive through Charlottesville's parking decks can help feed hungry families in central Virginia. The centers are taking donations for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank as part of the Governor's Bowl Food and Fund Drive competition between Virginia chambers of commerce.
The collection barrels are out at the Water Street and Market Street parking garages. Customers can drop off canned food or cash donations when they pay for their parking.
Bob Stroh of the Downtown Business Association said, "Food's heavy, so you just leave it in the car and as you leave you drop it off with the booth attendant. We're hoping it's going to be really easy and very successful."
The garages each get at least 1,200 cars coming in and out every day, plus monthly permit parkers.
The Governor's Bowl Food and Fund Drive continues through July 4.
