Monday night, Charlottesville City Council unanimously agreed to
fund a cultural plan for the city, to boost economic development.
Piedmont Council for the Arts
(PCA) asked council for $25,000 over the next two years to complete the first
Charlottesville area cultural plan. A committee would work with artists
and arts organizations to develop new ways to make the Charlottesville scene a
destination for locals and tourists alike.
"It's a great scene here," said PCA Interim Executive Director Sarah Lawson. "We have lots of people doing great things and great work. It's more a matter of bringing everyone together to make sure we don't duplicate services and use our resources better as a combined effort."
The five-year cultural plan will cost about $112,000. PCA hopes to combine funding from the city, county, and grants to get the plan going next year.
