Memorial Bench to Commemorate Greene County Investigator Unveiled

Posted: Updated:

In 2009 Greene County Sheriff's investigator Chad Carr was killed in a car crash while on duty. On Sunday, a memorial dedication was held in his memory.

His family and law enforcement friends unveiled a bench in his memory outside the Greene County Sheriff's office.

Carr, who was 31, was killed when his cruiser was broadsided by a tractor trailer on Madison Road in Stanardsville. He was on the clock for the Greene County Sheriff's office at the time.

His mother and co-workers spoke at the dedication.  Cathi Carr, Chad's mother, said, "I was told by a good friend of Chad's that a lot of his friends and associates still have Chad's number in their phone - that touched me."

The Greene County Sheriff's Office expressed thanks to the Carr family and all the donors who made contributions for the memorial bench and service. The new memorial is located in front of the sheriff's office by the flag poles just off Spotswood Trail in Standardsville.

Carr leaves behind two young boys.
