Charlottesville Students Celebrate Library Opening

Posted: Updated:

A group of Charlottesville students got bored with the selection of books at their school, so they decided to step up and do something about it. Kids at the Henry Avenue Learning Center got together and turned a storage closet into their own library.

They researched what the perfect library should look like, and then wrote letters to businesses asking for donations. Thursday, the project came full circle with a celebration.

Henry Avenue Learning Center teacher Cindy Nelson said, "We got wonderful books donated from several different places, and we've built this wonderful library. We've painted it. And the kids like going into it because it's comfortable and inviting."

Originally, the school had only about 100 books.  Now they have several hundred books and the students all say they're much more motivated to read.
