Police Investigate Body Found in Lake Anna

Posted: Updated:

Update: Louisa Co Sheriff's Office has identified the body recovered from Lake Anna Wednesday as Robert Coleman Adams, 60, from Roanoke, Va.

A body found floating in Lake Anna Wednesday afternoon has been brought back to shore after a recovery that took several hours.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call reporting a body floating in the water around 1:00 Wednesday afternoon.  A fisherman discovered the body, that police say is of an adult male, but the identity has not yet been established.

Authorities say the man probably drowned over the weekend, and that he may have been fishing under the bridge and fell in.  The drowning happened at Mill Pond Bridge in Mineral.

Major Donald Lowe says the accident may have been preventable.  He stated, "You shouldn't really be fishing underneath the bridge anyhow in that type of condition - it's concrete, it's slippery.  Especially when the water level raises and lowers, you get a little slippery spot from the water, and on a steep slope like that it can be extremely dangerous."

Major Lowe also had some advice to prevent such incidents in the future. "If you're fishing take a buddy with you. Always use the buddy method, and find a nice safe legal spot to fish," he said.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office marine unit worked to remove the body from under the bridge. Police say the current pushed the body into some rocks under the bridge, which is where it was recovered around 3:30pm.

The sheriff's office is still waiting to confirm the identity of the body and notify the family before releasing the name to the public.
