Charlottesville Group Hoping to Compete in World Choir Games

Posted: Updated:

Fifty young ladies from Charlottesville make up the only middle school choir in Virginia who hope to head to the World Choir Games.

They're called The Bearettes and they are from J.P. Burley Middle School.  The girls hope to sing alongside more than 350 choirs from around the globe in the World Choir Games this July.

Through fundraising, grants and donations, The Bearettes have raised $25,000 towards the trip.  They need $15,000 more to get to the competition.

Mallory Bellby with The Bearettes said, "We've been fundraising since the beginning of the year  - and we don't want anyone left behind - like no man left behind."

The World Choir Games is coming to the United States for the first time ever this summer.  It will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio from July 4-14.
