An man is in critical condition after being crushed by a tractor Tuesday morning on a farm off Thomas Jefferson Parkway (Route 53) in Albemarle County.
Police have not yet identified the victim, but they do say that a male Albemarle County farm worker was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center just before noon Tuesday.
Around 10:30, police and emergency crews responded to the Albemarle County farm property for a reported industrial accident.
A tractor had overturned, pinning a man underneath. It took two wreckers to help pull that tractor off of the victim. Rescue crews then managed to free him.
Sgt. Steve Wilkins with Albemarle County police said, "Once they did that, they were able to properly assess that they (his injuries) were potentially life-threatening. They put him on Pegasus and got him out of here."
Police could not release any information on the nature of those injuries Tuesday afternoon.
They also say because the accident happened on private property they are not actively investigating the accident. Information has been sent to the Occupation Safety and Health Administration for a follow-up investigation.
