Fifty students at Clark Elementary swapped their textbooks for trees at Forest Hills Park Wednesday.
The Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards and the head of the gifted programs at Clark and Johnson elementary schools joined forces to put on "Arbor Day Two." The students got their hands dirty with an up-close look at the trees they've been learning about in their plant study.
Robin Hanes with Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards said, "They're working and learning about how many lobes are on a tree leaf and how they're attached to the tree and how the water comes through the roots and feeds the tree."
This event has now taken place at both Clark and Johnson elementary schools and the head of the gifted program hopes this day extends to all of the city schools by next year.
