The first day of May also marked the opening of the Pen Park Market in Albemarle County.
The farmers market is an opportunity for vendors who can't make the Saturday market to still sell their goods. In its third year, 17 stands offer everything from plants and fresh produce, to face painting and food.
One vendor says this gives her something to work for after graduating from college last year.
Samara Townsend of Lettuce Grow Farm said, "I've gotten a lot of great opportunities to meet a lot of people and I really just love what the market does - like the local food. I'm really passionate about local food and the community is awesome and the food is awesome. I just love it all."
The market along Pen Park Road is open from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. every Tuesday through the end of September.
