In Scottsville, voters
cast their ballots for mayor and town council, but turnout was slow at the
Victory Hall polling place. Only 86 of
the town's 406 registered voters came out to elect all six councilors and the
mayor.
Shannon Adcock, Raymond
Gritsko, Bob O'Halloran, Ronald Smith, and John Snoddy will take their seats on
town council. Mayor Barry Grove won his
re-election bid.
Election workers say smaller
elections like this really give voters a chance to control what happens in
their town.
Chief of Elections Pam
Kelly said, "If you don't do it, nobody else is going to do it. You need to get out and support the people
who are actually going to run your town and make a difference. You really need these kind of elections. It's a little bit of a shame more people
don't come out."
A sixth town councilor
will come from 75 write-in ballots.
Scottsville's tradition is to ring the town hall bell and announce the
election's winners out in front of the building.
