Albemarle Forum Sheds Light on Underage Drinking Risks

Posted: Updated:

A forum Monday night in Albemarle County is shedding light on the risks of underage drinking.

A group of parents and teenagers listened as one young woman talked about her experience being date raped after a night of heavy drinking.  The talk was sponsored by Safe Schools, Healthy Students to inform teens about the consequences associated with alcohol abuse.

Lois Wallenhorst with Safe Schools, Healthy Students said, "A drunk driving accident or injury can mean months in a hospital.  It can mean being away from your friends, your family.  There are many underlying consequences."

Monday night's talk was a follow up to a December meeting on teen drinking.  It's in response to a series of underage drinking incidents last fall involving high school students.
