Congressman Robert Hurt kicked off campaign events Monday all across the 5th District. He stopped in Danville and Lynchburg Monday morning, and came to Albemarle County in the afternoon.
Monday Hurt formally launched his re-election campaign, which drew dozens of enthusiastic supporters and a few equally enthusiastic opponents.
Hurt says the support of Albemarle Republicans is critical for his re-election bid.
"We're going to need that same energy going into this next election, because it's going to be a hard fought election. There's going to be a whole lot of sound and fury in the next six months," said Hurt.
Hurt says his campaign will focus on the call to curtail government spending and seek to create jobs in the district.
He will face Fauquier County Democrat John Douglass at the polls in November.
