Virginia Tech hired James Johnson to replace Seth Greenberg as the new head men's basketball coach.
Johnson has been an assistant under Greenberg for the past five seasons.
The 41-year-old left Tech April 19 to take an assistant coaching job at Clemson but immediately became a candidate to replace Greenberg when Tech fired Greenberg April 23.
This will be Johnson's first collegiate head coaching job.
Johnson is a Virginia native and Powhatan High School graduate who's been an assistant coach at George Mason, Longwood, Old Dominion, Penn State, Elon, and the College of Charleston.
