Warrants Shed New Light in Long Child Porn Case

Posted: Updated: April 30, 2012 11:29 AM

Monday, a search warrant sheds new light on the case against Charles Farrell Long Jr., a former teacher and police officer charged with making and possessing child porn.

Long is charged with two counts of possessing child pornography and two counts of producing it.

Search warrants obtained by NBC29 show that there were two victims in this case.  The filing claims Long molested the two victims between 1992 and 1997.

Long denies any wrongdoing, but the filing says he admitted to providing pornographic magazines and lubricant to the pair of minors and was present while they masturbated.

Police say they searched Long's home on Ricky Road and they found two sexually explicit images of one of the minors.

Sergeant Darrell Byers with the Albemarle County Police Department said, "The information was brought forth by a victim and we investigated it."

Long told police that he converted many of his old photos and videos and saved them to CDs or DVDs, external hard drives and Apple's iCloud.   However, according to Sgt. Byers, "There was no distribution of pornography."

According to the arrest warrants, the possessing and producing child porn charges stem from 1996.  Long had his first appearance in Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Monday.  His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 18.

Long is a former Albemarle County police officer, former Albemarle Sheriff's Office reserve deputy, and was also a fourth grade teacher in Charlottesville from 1987 until 1992. He also volunteered with the Monticello High School Band Boosters.

Most recently Long worked with international exchange students. He was recognized in December as the top coordinator in the United States. See related article. At the same time, police say they got a complaint about sexual abuse and started investigating.
